Why Retailers Ask for Your ZIP Code By ANN CARRNS APRIL 1, 2013

Why Retailers Ask for Your ZIP Code By ANN CARRNS APRIL 1, 2013

I usually dread shopping in stores. Trying on clothes is tedious, and sometimes completing the actual purchase is, too. Retailers like to ask for all sorts of information as they’re ringing up your merchandise, like your e-mail address and ZIP code. I just want to pay and be on my way, and they give me the third degree.

[…]

The result can be unwanted catalogs and other junk mail. (To get a simple idea of the cumulative impact of each tidbit of information, try searching for your name alone on Google search, and then search again using your name and ZIP code, and see how much more data comes back. If you have an uncommon name — as I do — it’s eye opening.)

In March, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that collecting ZIP codes for credit card purchases violates a state consumer protection law… http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/01/why-retailers-ask-for-your-zip-code/?_r=1

Don Surber: Chelsea called Secret Service pigs?:  http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2015/04/chelsea-called-secret-service-pigs.html

A new book on the Clintons says Chelsea Clinton referred to the Secret Service personnel assigned to protect her and her parents as "pigs."

When an agent angrily confronted her for her bratty remark, she said, "Well, that’s what my mother and father call you."

"Meet Sydney Smoot, a 9-year-old fourth grader in Hernando County, Fla., who has more confidence than many adults. Smoot wrote (with help from her mom) and powerfully delivered (all by herself) a speech about Florida’s new standardized test, the FSA, or Florida Standards Assessment that drew loud applause from the audience."

carolinglick | The diplomatic track to war

carolinglick | The diplomatic track to warhttp://carolineglick.com/the-diplomatic-track-to-war/

The world powers assembled at Lausanne, Switzerland, with the representatives of the Islamic Republic may or may not reach a framework deal regarding Iran’s nuclear program. But succeed or fail, the disaster that their negotiations have unleashed is already unfolding. The damage they have caused is irreversible.
US President Barack Obama, his advisers and media cheerleaders have long presented his nuclear diplomacy with the Iran as the only way to avoid war. Obama and his supporters have castigated as warmongers those who oppose his policy of nuclear appeasement with the world’s most prolific state sponsor of terrorism.
But the opposite is the case. Had their view carried the day, war could have been averted.
Through their nuclear diplomacy, Obama and his comrades started the countdown to war.

The Beatles-While My Guitar Gently Weeps

The Beatles-While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you

how to unfold you love

I don't know how someone controlled you

they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning

While my guitar gently weeps

With every mistake we must surely be learning

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted

you were perverted too

I don't know how you were inverted

no one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at you all

Still my guitar gently weeps

Oh, oh, oh

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

oh oh, oh oh, oh oh

Yeah yeah yeah yeah

yeah yeah yeah yeah

News from The Hill: Hillary Clinton's favorability rating falls in two key states

By Jonathan Easley

Hillary Clinton’s favorability ratings have plunged in two key battleground states that will be critical to determining the 2016 presidential election, a new poll finds.

In addition, about half the voters in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania say they don’t trust the former Secretary of State. Read more here.

[...]

According to a Quinnipiac University survey released on Tuesday, 50 percent of voters in Florida say Clinton is not honest or trustworthy, compared to 41 percent who say she is. Clinton’s favorability rating in the Sunshine State has shrunk from 53 percent positive and 39 percent negative last month, to 49 percent positive and 46 percent negative this month.

In Pennsylvania, 49 percent of voters say they don’t trust Clinton, against 44 percent who say that they do. Clinton’s favorability rating in the Keystone State plummeted from a 55 percent-38 percent split in February, to 48 percent positive and 47 percent negative in March."

Police officer shot in Roxbury - Metro - The Boston Globe

Police officer shot in Roxbury - Metro - The Boston Globe:

"By Jeremy C. Fox, Melissa Hanson and Sean P. MurphyGLOBE CORRESPONDENTS AND GLOBE STAFF  MARCH 27, 2015"

A Boston police officer credited with helping to save the life of a Transit officer who was wounded in a shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers in Watertown was shot in the face Friday night in a confrontation in Roxbury that left a suspect dead and an innocent bystander injured.

John Moynihan, 34, was in critical condition at Boston Medical Center late Friday after a gang unit stop turned violent, and Commissioner William B. Evans said he was “fighting for his life.”

Moynihan had assisted Transit police officer Richard H. Donohue Jr, who was shot and bleeding to death when police tried to apprehend Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in April of 2013, said Lieutenant Michael P. McCarthy of Boston police.

Maryland State Police Line of Duty Death: On March 25, 1998, Trooper Raymond Armstead, 27 years old and a 14 month veteran of the Maryland State Police died in a car crash while on duty. http://kevindayhoffwestgov-net.blogspot.com/2015/03/maryland-state-police-line-of-duty.html

On March 25, 1998, Trooper Raymond Armstead, 27 years old and a 14 month veteran of the Maryland State Police was operating his patrol vehicle northbound on I-295, south of Powder Mill Road in Prince George's County when he observed someone on the shoulder of the road waving their arms for assistance.

Realizing there had been an accident, Trooper Armstead attempted to cross the lanes of traffic to assist the stranded motorists. As Trooper Armstead focused on the shoulder activity, the traffic ahead of him stopped. Trooper Armstead's patrol car collided with a van that was stopped in front of him causing him to become trapped in his vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. Once extracted, Trooper Armstead was flown to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he was pronounced dead shortly before 3:00 pm

17 Surprising Reasons You're Stressed Out

17 Surprising Reasons You're Stressed Out: "By Amanda MacMillan

You're probably all too aware of the major sources of stress in your life -- money, your terrible commute, the construction workers who start jackhammering at 5 a.m. But stress and anxiety don't have to just come from obvious or even negative sources. "There are plenty of chronic strains and low-grade challenges that don't necessarily overwhelm you in the moment, but almost take more of a toll in the long run," says Scott Schieman, Ph.D., professor of sociology at the University of Toronto. These are some of unexpected reasons why you might feel anxious or agitated. By recognizing them for what they are, says Schieman, you can better prepare to cope." ...  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/21/surprising-stress-causes_n_6849250.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063
