Special Care Nursery at Carroll Hospital Center Receives Donation from Westminster Kiwanis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Westminster, Md. (June 28, 2006) — The Kiwanis Club of Greater Westminster has donated $500 to Carroll Hospital Center in support of the Level II Special Care Nursery (SCN). Donna Shybunko, president of Kiwanis Club of Greater Westminster presented the check to Sherri Hosfeld Joseph, the hospital’s director of development, June 28 during the group’s weekly meeting.

The SCN cares for babies born as early as 32 weeks. Carroll Hospital Center is preparing to expand this service by doubling the square footage of the nursery and adding three to five more specially-equipped newborn beds. Infants that need additional medical care (due to premature birth, for example) but who do not require a ventilator, may be treated in the SCN.

“The advanced care provided by the specially-trained staff of the Level II Special Care Nursery makes it possible for parents to keep vulnerable newborns close to home,” said Joseph. “This gracious donation from the Kiwanis Club will help make that a reality for even more new moms and dads.” Joseph encourages anyone wishing to make a donation to support the SCN, or another project at Carroll Hospital Center, to please call the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation at 410-871-6200.

Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
