The article began with this statement: "The existence of Franklin Roosevelt relieved American liberals for a dozen years of the responsibility of thinking for themselves. Some of his followers now feel a terrified need to consult him from the grave. Politicians seeking his place try to drape themselves in his memory. The heat is on the family to indicate somehow where FDR would stand today."
