Concerning the Deficit
Concern about the deficit is growing. Eleven percent of respondents in March 2010 volunteered to Pew Research Center for the People and the Press that it was the most important national problem, but the issue still trailed far behind unemployment (31 percent). In August 2009, only 6 percent mentioned the deficit. There were no partisan differences on another question that asked people about the top priorities for the president and Congress. Roughly 60 percent of Democratic, Independent, and Republican respondents said the deficit should be a top priority.
