Eighty firefighters from eight Carroll County fire companies
responded late Tuesday evening to fight a single-alarm house fire in the 1300
block of Western Chapel Road.
The first came into the Carroll County emergency operations
center for an investigation of a reported large outdoor fire at 10:18 p.m. At
10:34 the fire was upgraded to a box alarm for a house fire, and shortly after a
tanker task force was requested to help supply water.
Firefighters from Westminster, Union Bridge, New Windsor, Pleasant
Valley, Manchester, Taneytown, Hampstead, and Gamber remained on the scene for
over three hours. The fire was declared under control shortly after midnight,
according to the EOC. Units from Frederick and Baltimore County backed-up
county stations.
New Windsor firefighters stayed on the scene until past 4
a.m. to assist the fire marshall’s investigation.
The fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State
Fire Marshall. According to the fire marshall’s office, the 2-story log home
was vacant at the time and suffered $25,000 in damages. “The vacant home was
being prepared for demolition. Anyone having information concerning this fire
is asked to contact 410-386-3030.”
Westminster Volunteer Fire Department PIO Bob Cumberland and
incident commander Josh Evans assisted with this article.
