The head writer of the upcoming David Simon series Treme collapsed on the set in New Orleans Tuesday afternoon and later died, Investigative Voice has learned.

David Mills apparently died of an aneurysm at a hospital in New Orleans late Tuesday night, a source close to the set told I.V. just after midnight. He was 48.

Treme is the latest show by Simon, creator of the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, and is scheduled to premiere April 11, also on HBO. The series, named after a neighborhood in New Orleans, chronicles the lives of several musicians and other characters still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Mills was also a producer of the new show.
