I guess all minorities in America have their time in history when they are treated poorly by others because they are different. The events of 9/11 made it difficult for many American-Muslims because some Americans like to make generalizations about people they don't know.
Most generalizations about specific groups are not accurate, of course. For example, one of the many myths about undocumented immigrants is that they are the cause of crime in cities along the American-Mexican border. Not true, according to the FBI. Most cities on the American-Mexican border have significantly lower crime rates than most other American cities.
