“Roadside Produce salesman robbed at gunpoint”

Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland, May 21, 2011 ---- At approximately 1:20 pm, Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a robbery at a roadside produce stand alongside the 400 BLK Westbound East Main Street.

The initial investigation revealed that a lone Kern’s Produce employee selling produce from the rear of his pick-up truck, was seated in the cab taking a break between customers when an approximately 6’0” tall white male, with short dark hair and a scar on his right cheek,wearing sunglasses, and a dark colored t-shirt and sweat pants approached the employee from the front of the truck. Through the open passenger’s side door, the suspect pressed a dark colored handgun against the employee’s neck while demanding money.

No one was injured during the robbery and the suspect fled the scene on foot toward Fair Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash. Sheriff’s Deputies and Westminster Police searched the area, but were not able to locate the suspect; he remains at large. Following the incident, a dark colored, late model Ford Econoline Van was observed leaving the area quickly by witnesses.
