Constructed By Inmates

TOWSON, MD (November 1, 2013)-The groundbreaking Public
Safety Works inmate restorative justice initiative celebrates another milestone
on November 5, when The Departments of Public Safety and Correctional Services
(DPSCS), Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Labor, Licensing and
Regulation (DLLR), and Disabilities (DOD) join the City of Westminster to cut
the ribbon celebrating more than 200 ADA-compliant curbs that were done by
inmates in downtown Westminster.

Grant-funded thanks to work by the Maryland Department of
Housing and Community Development, the curb project is the largest project of
its kind ever done by inmates in the DPSCS Public Safety Works community
project initiative. The inmates learned concrete skills from Romano Concrete, a
longtime and valued partner with DPSCS.

DPSCS Secretary Gary Maynard, Westminster Mayor Kevin Utz,
and top leaders from DHCD and Access Maryland will all be on hand, as will some
of the inmates who worked on the project.
