They weren't happy about it, but Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board commissioners agreed Friday to pay former Superintendent Michael Spoto $35,000 rather than have his wrongful-firing grievance heard by the Monroe County Career Service Council.
Spoto was fired in November 2010, shortly after being charged with felony theft for misappropriating three district cell phones in 2007.- When a paddlewheel dinner boat called the Crystal Queen sailed its maiden voyage in waters off the coast of Atlantic City in the early 1990s, the U.S. Coast Guard certified 153 passengers and crew members as a safe load.
- The Monroe County School Board in a meeting on Tuesday supported Chairman John Dick's proposal to give Glynn Archer Elementary School to the city of Key West for use as a city hall in exchange for space to park buses in the Lower Keys.
