Customers Asked to Deposit Mail before Noon
BALTIMORE, MD – Weather conditions may make it
impossible to collect mail later in the day. The following updates have been
provided regarding current mail service as the Maryland area braces for this
season’s most severe winter storm:
Post Offices Close Early Due to Winter Storm Jonas January

MAILBOX COLLECTIONS: Collections of mail from
the familiar blue collection boxes, residences, and businesses will be
completed by noon.
POST OFFICES: All Post Offices in the Baltimore
District that’s comprised of ZIP Codes beginning with 215 and 217 will be
closing at 2 pm. ZIP Codes starting with 210, 211, 212, 216, 218 and 219
will close at 3 p.m. This includes all facilities, including bulk
mail acceptance units.
The Postal Service asks that steps and walkways be cleared
of snow and ice after the storm so that letter carriers may resume delivery
safely and efficiently on Monday. Icy areas should also be salted or
sanded.
Curbside mailboxes should be shoveled out enough so that
carriers can deliver or collect mail without having to leave or back up their
vehicles. The area near the mailbox should be cleared in a half-moon
shape to give the carrier and passing drivers full visibility.
Letter carriers are instructed to hold mail to addresses
where ice and snow are not cleared but they often risk injury trying to provide
the best service they can to the customers they serve. Please show them your
appreciation by ensuring they are safe when delivering your mail.
If you have any questions regarding mail delivery, you can
contact the Postal Service Customer Care Center at 1-800-ASK-USPS
(800-275-8777) or visit www.usps.com, at
special USPS Service Alerts section found at http://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/welcome.htm.
You will be provided specific information regarding delivery
and retail services in the affected area.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating
expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its
operations.
