WaPo's Wemple Goes Crazy on Politico's Harris
Politico published a story two days ago (approx. half a decade in POLITICO time) questioning how well informed voters are. WaPo's Erik Wemple didn't find the analysis to be very smart. The story, written by Alexander Burns and headlined "How much do voters know?," was accompanied by a large photo of the famously slow, awkward character Forrest Gump. It reads: "It's entirely questionable whether the great mass of voters has even the... read more>>
Washington Examiner Pushes New Columnist
Contrary to what this photo suggests, the Washington Examiner's Paul Bedard is not in prison, so don't try to "free" him. But when we passed this Examiner news rack at the corner of 17th and Corcoran, we wondered if a promise of heavy publicity was part of the contract when Bedard signed with the paper in January. After all, that's a big-ass promo for Bedard. And when the Examiner's website got a... read more>>
Politico to Hire Down?
Politico typically tries to hire up. They snag reporters from the aggressive media mindset of Manhattan. They steal people who haven't been places long -- such as the recent hire of Lois Romano from The Daily Beast. She'd been there under a year and at WaPo for nearly three decades. But now they're setting their sights lower and perhaps just nearby at TBD. Ryan Kearney, who has written for a site that prides... read more>>
Some Like It Hot
POTUS was on the road in Prince George's County, MD Thursday morning and made an unscheduled lunch stop in Clinton, MD. According to pool reporter David Nakamura from WaPo, POTUS and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) grabbed some BBQ ribs at Texas Ribs and BBQ restaurant. Nakamura tells us that he couldn't hear what POTUS ordered, but he heard, "hot sauce got be hot. Do you want me to pay up now... read more>>

Local Ad Agency Turns Down Realty TV
No matter how atrocious self-promotion is these days, most journalists think it's the way to go. All press is good press - right? Well, not in the case of a local ad agency, the Pappas Group, which turned down a chance to be on national Reality TV. The group felt it was bad PR. Anthony Pappas explains his reasoning in a story in AdAge. He says when they were approached by AMC's... read more>>
Tucker Carlson Declares Ben Smith DNC 'Mouthpiece'
Things are getting strained again in the polluted airspace between The Daily Caller's Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson and BuzzFeed Editor Ben Smith. Let's just say getting them in a room and locking the door could be quite entertaining. You guys free for dinner? Late Wednesday afternoon, Smith drew the ire of The Daily Caller by printing a story about Matthew Boyle's exchanges with DNC Spokesman Brad Woodhouse. The story claimed that Boyle "threatened"... read more>>
Anna Wintour Diva Tactics Get Squashed
Vogue Editor Anna Wintour was the last person to show up to the White House State Dinner last night. This would make her, of course, fashionably late. Our spies tell us she had to take the long walk up the street as the Diva wasn't allowed to be driven inside. The only cars that drove straight inside where George Clooney, Harvey Weinstein, and the music acts. "Wonder if Anna wore her... read more>>

George Clooney Comes to Dinner
After snagging George Clooney at Union Station last night, Colin Drummond (who's now setting up shop at ColinDaily.com) caught up with him today and found out from George himself that he'll be attending the State Dinner tonight at the White House. No word on whether he's bringing his girlfriend Stacy Kiebler. All bets are on his father, Nick Clooney. Colin shot this picture of George outside the Senate Dirksen building today. By... read more>>
